This shows the conditions here:
gorse sprayed but not yet cleared, some still growing,
and tree lucerne
growing (up on the right) as a shelter tree
to help the new native seedlings survive.
The tree lucerne was planted 2 years previously [2007].
One of our members starts spraying and clearing gorse in February each year, to prepare specific areas for the
forthcoming winter plantings.
Typical view of the area being planted at this time
Further down the access route, showing natural regeneration at the back, and piled-up dead gorse from the 2003 fire which destroyed everything on this side.
Planting in Progress.
New seedlings get plastic protection from hares and rabbits, and a cardboard collar to discourage weeds and keep roots moist.
