ARBOR DAY ACTION: People were busy doing their bit for the environment in Porirua on Arbor Day last week.

Porirua City Mayor Jenny Brash was involved with the Arbor Day planting at Plimmerton Domain with Plimmerton School Students (centre and clockwise) Samantha Ramsay, Madeleine Bowles, Kristie Cuttance, Madi May Ferris and Rhiannon Evans.

Cannons Creek School students were busy planting trees at their adopt-a-spot site on Arbor Day, Laugaia Akerise (9) is pictured right showing off her green fingers.

Arbor Day was also celebrated at Pukerua Bay Landmark and the Jillet Street reserve in Titahi Bay.

The Department of Conservation slogan for Arbor Day, 2005 was "Everything is connected - Te Katoa o nga mea tukupu e mau hono takapari ana".  Its focus was on reminding people of their role as caretakers of the environment.
